GitHub - Setup & usage
Follow these steps to connect GitHub, create connected KPIs, and keep syncs healthy.
Before you connect
Confirm you have admin or integrator access to the GitHub account you want to measure.
Connection uses Personal access token (PAT).
Only connect accounts your organisation owns or is authorised to report on.
Generate a fine-grained token
GitHub Settings → Access → Credentials → Personal access tokens → Fine-grained tokens.Create a fine-grained tokenSet an expiration and choose repository access (not Public only).
Under Repository permissions, add Contents, Issues, Pull requests, and Deployments - all Read.
Copy the token immediately - GitHub shows it once.
Connect in Elevale
Open Workspace Settings → Integrations, find GitHub, and paste the PAT.
Elevale validates the token before storing it encrypted.
When creating KPIs, pick the organisation (if needed) and repository to match token access.
Create connected KPIs
On KPIs & Dashboards, create a Connected KPI and select GitHub.
Choose a data point and sync frequency (daily or weekly is typical for engineering metrics).
Use KPI detail to confirm last sync time; reconnect if the token expires.
Troubleshooting
403 / forbidden - confirm Read on Contents, Issues, PRs, Deployments for target repos.
No organisations listed - add Organization access with Members (Read).
Invalid token - regenerate and reconnect.
Create connected KPIs
On KPIs & Dashboards, create a KPI, choose Connected, and pick your GitHub connection.
Select a data point from the catalog (see the Data points article in this folder for the full list).
Set a sync frequency. An initial sync runs after save; use Resync on the KPI card for on-demand updates.
Review last sync time and error messages on the KPI detail page. Reconnect in Integrations if auth expires.
Sync frequency guidance
Daily - traffic, ads, engineering, and operational metrics reviewed weekly.
Weekly - summary KPIs for leadership dashboards.
Monthly / quarterly - finance and board-level accounting metrics.
Match frequency to how often you review the metric. Use Resync after configuration changes.
Disconnect and data retention
Disconnect from Workspace Settings → Integrations to revoke stored credentials and stop scheduled syncs.
Previously synced KPI history remains until you delete or convert those KPIs.
